Xibalba plushie

At laaaast, the project I’ve been working on for the past 2 months or so is finished! Behold everyone’s favorite trashlord and whiny King of the Dead: Balbi Xibalba! Complete with real feathers in his wings and removable armor!

Heh, you can tell I’m obsessed about something when I start making plushies… and because you know, you gotta have your very own soft, cuddly version of Death to keep you company while you watch tv late at night. <3

It was quite challenging to adapt him to plushie form, especially because of the many different materials that were used to make him. I know the proportions are not perfect, but I’m REALLY proud how he came out. I don’t know if he’s supposed to have legs or not, but I had to add them for “plushie-fication” purposes. The fabrics are random ones from Walmart, but I can say I ended up liking the one I used for his body a lot (despite the fact that it was a nightmare to cut because it shed fibers everywhere). The fabric is kinda shiny and soft to the touch, similar to velvet, so it makes for an awesome tarry appearance xD (I guess you can sort of tell on the pictures that the black fabric is shiny).

The armor has 2 pieces that come attached together at the sides. It is made out of cardboard and mache paper painted with acrylic paint. The little decorative pieces on the armor and the horns on the crown are made of sculpey clay. (Fun fact: the little skulls on his armor and crown are made with glow-in-the-dark sculpey clay). The beard, moustache and eyebrows are made of white faux fur.
